Ya humar!

As soon as the PETRONAS Adventure Team is flagged off on Monday, the Ya Humar Award will be up for grabs! Like its sister award the ‘Tokolosh’ in last year’s Africa Trek, the award will be given to deserving recipients over the course of the expedition, all in good fun of course.

Ya humar is Arabic for donkey, and is used by the Arabs to tell off stupid people. For example, “You stupid – like a donkey!"

The Award is usually given after the morning briefing. Expedition Leader Halim Abdul Rahman has handpicked a selection committee, and they comprise Mohd Najuib Abu Hasan (Hantu), Anthony Wong (Orang Utan), Zulkarnain Othman (Samprong) and Harun Rahman (Mojo).

Past winning foolish acts have included wearing shoes on the wrong feet, getting into the wrong rented car (entering a 4-door car like it was a 2-door car), chasing after a runaway tent, and leaving the car keys and the engine running in an auto-lock car.

Halim stopped by the Omdurman Handicraft Market to pick up the Ya Humar trophy. It will indeed be a hotly contested award, as there are already people vying for it.
