Two more days and the expedition will be over. As I write, we are driving through the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The scenery is simply breathtaking. There is silence over the convoy radio and even the more talkative ones are quiet as the members take in the views and photograph the scenery.
As we drive through the windy roads and narrow terrains, up the hills and down the valleys, I stand in awe at the beauty of nature. The mountains look majestic and I feel small compared to their magnitude. As we drive pass the villages, children run to greet us and wave at us.
Today will be the final day of camping. I have really enjoyed the nights out in the open. It has been amazing sleeping under the canopy of stars and looking out for shooting stars. The scenery during sunset and sunrise were truly spectacular, and I can’t find the words to describe how it felt being at one with nature except that it was an experience to be savoured.
I have also enjoyed the fellowship shared during the expedition. There are lots of activities that take place once the convoy reach the campsite, and each member has a different role to play like setting the bed, cooking or providing entertainment. I will miss the laughter, friendship and fellowship as we sat under the stars sharing a cup of coffee and exchanging stories.
As we reach the end of the expedition, I find it difficult to believe that the days have gone by so quickly. It hardly seems like yesterday when I was at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport airport reluctantly waving goodbye to my parents and sister. As much as I look forward to going back home, I will definitely miss the whole team for each one has been special, and each character different. I will miss the roll calls, singing the national anthem, gathering for the briefing and the Ya Humar award.
