Awesome Algeria

September 26, 2004

The police provided the PAT members security and protection A typical Algerian scene

Villages in the valleys, amazing landscapes, music and dancing – these are the sights and sounds that greeted us as we stepped into awesome Algeria. Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine myself in countries like Libya and Algeria. I believe that I am greatly privileged to be part of the 4WD PETRONAS Adventure Team (PAT) which tries to make a difference in the lives of the people we meet along the way.

Algeria is a beautiful country and the people are extremely friendly. As we drive through mountain-like terrains and valleys, we catch sight of the villages. The people greet us with friendly smiles.

The PAT together with representatives from the PETRONAS office in Algeria came together to conduct Community Relations programmes. The first stop was at a hospital. We visited the children’s ward and the orphanage. It was a brief stop, yet we hoped that the donations we gave and the time we spent with the children would help make their lives a little better.

We were truly touched to experience the Algerian hospitality. We were invited to visit the factory of a PETRONAS supplier. The entire village had come together for a cultural show. There were music, songs, and dancing. The people were in jubilant spirits and their enthusiasm was indeed contagious, for team members also joined in the celebrations. It was truly a memorable experience to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the Algerians.
