The Kingdom of Morocco lies between Algeria and Western
Sahara, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean and the
Mediterranean Sea. The Strait of Gibraltar separates it from
Spain and the rest of Europe. Plateaus and fertile plains lie
between the snow-capped Atlas Mountains and Morocco’s
Atlantic coast.
Moroccan highlights:
• Fès, then "the most imperial city of them all," remains the
cultural, intellectual, and spiritual capital of Morocco. The
medina of Fès el-Bali (Old Fès) is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site and is home to the oldest university in the
world. It’s also famous for its sheep skin tanneries and
leather crafts.
• High Atlas Mountains is home to the highest peaks in
North Africa. The mountains extend for more than 700km
across the entire width of the country, dividing the kingdom
between the green north and the hot desert to the south.
