November 16 - The first episode of the PETRONAS Trans-Himalayas Expedition which aired on TV2 last night received the thumbs up from viewers. The expedition organiser – the PETRONAS Adventure Team (PAT), and the people behind the making of the TV programme – Novista Sdn Bhd received a wave of messages from people who had watched the show.
Expedition Leader Halim Abdul Rahman said that he wanted to do something different this year. “Beside the journey, you would have noticed the new additional segments – Tech, Flavours, Profiles, and On Track with Halim,” he added.
While Tech focused on anything and everything technical but in layman’s language, Flavours highlighted the cuisines of a particular country or province. In Profile, expedition members share a personal anecdote about themselves and On Track with Halim is when the expedition leader shares his personal thoughts about the expedition.
Most of the viewers who sent in their congratulatory messages said they couldn’t wait for next week, adding that it is often the places the team travels to that excite them the most.
“Many people enjoyed the part just before we break for a commercial or when we returned to the programme,” said Faruk Rahman, the expedition’s convoy leader. TV producer Harun Rahman thanked members who participated in the filming of the documentary, adding that they were real good sports. “Generally, I think they had a lot of fun,” he said.
In the first episode, the PAT prepared for their seventh expedition – a 43-day overland expedition to the Himalayas. Their first country on the route was Thailand where they also conducted a community relations programme in Bangkok and visited several PETRONAS service stations in conjunction with the launch of PETRONAS Syntium in Thailand. A visit to the Death Railway in Kanchanaburi Province also affected some members emotionally.
The remaining five episodes will air every Tuesday night until December 20th, 2005 on TV2 at 10pm.
