January 10 - One hundred plus members of the Petronas Adventure Team (PAT) and Oscar Lima headed due north to Kedah to offer their assistance in the tsunami aftermath. Oscar Lima is an amateur radio group owned and managed by PAT.
Donations included much-needed clothes, diapers, infant formula, school uniforms and school bags in two 1-tonne trucks and one 3-tonne truck.
The convoy of 36 four-wheel drives and three trucks met at Star Gate One (Taman Sri Gombak), Oscar Lima’s gathering point on 31st December at 10.30pm. With one rest stop at Bukit Merah, the convoy reached Kuala Muda Mosque at 7.30am. No one seemed to mind that New Year’s Day was celebrated on the road as getting aid quickly to the people who needed it the most was of the utmost priority.
PAT management Halim Rahman, Faruk Rahman and Azman Baharuddin handed over the items to the Mosque committee members and affected families. After the donation ceremony, PAT and Oscar Lima visited the affected areas.
“We are glad to help the tsunami victims of Kuala Muda,” said Halim, who hopes to do more for them in the future. “We must thank the members of Oscar Lima for their time and effort. They saw the news and quickly arranged the logistics and coordinated the donation from members.”
