PETRONAS Adventure Team and the Formula 1
17 March 2002 - All eyes were on Sepang last Sunday for the hottest race in town. The Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix 2002 saw one of the most exciting race of the year. Our very own PETRONAS Adventure Team were included as one of the highlights in the pre-race parade. This is their second appearance in the Grand Prix Parade. With the engines roaring, the tempreture rising, and excitement mounting, the PETRONAS Adventure Team showed off their gleaming 4x4s at the grandstand. Here are some pictures.
PETRONAS Motorsports in Kuantan
9 March 2002, Kuantan - For the third time in as many years the PETRONAS Adventure Team joins the rest of the PETRONAS stable in their annual get together, this time in Kuantan, Pahang. This year PAT sent 12 4wd and 3 bikes, in all 27 team members.
It was quite an exciting time for all especially meeting up with the Sauber Petronas F1 team and getting a close look at the F1 cars.
All the team members stayed at the Swiss Garden Hotel just outside Kuantan, on the first day all the team members went to Teluk Chempedak to spend some time with some underprivileged children. This included a "menganyam tikar" competition.After lunch it was the long awaited parade and F1 demonstration in downtown Kuantan.
An estimated 50,000 fans witnessed the parade and the F1 pit demonstration. Y.M.Sultan of Pahang who met with all the team members launched the parade.
Three of the Petronas Adventure Team Mitsubishi Storms were used to ferry the F1 and Primax drivers for the parade. After that it was the F1 pit-stop demo by the Sauber PETRONAS team. It was great for the people of Kuantan who got to see the workings the pit-stop crew up close and personal.
After some lazing around, it was time to get down to some serious competition. PAT the defending champion from last year's bowling competition had a hard time this year, but still they managed to get into the final after beating TVK Sprinta and Primax teams in the earlier rounds. In the semifinals PAT beat the Sauber team to meet the Media team in the final. Lead by captain Azman Baharuddin, Faruk Rahman, Mad Ya, Mior, Zul, Wak Azman and reserve player Karim, the lost in the final. Still it was a good show by the 4 wheelers in the sand, well done PAT.
After the games it was a very nice barbeque by the beach - good food and great company what more could one ask for ? During the dinner each teams was asked to do some presentation. Organized by Dr. Zaini and Y2K, the show is about our journey participated by Botak (Lee Kim Sia), Woon, Karim and Mior. The show was full of jokes and the audience really enjoyed the show. Some of them wishing they were coming along this year's expedition!
After a long day of activities, this year's event finally came to an end with the presentation of prizes for the beach volleyball competition by Tan Sri Dato Hassan Merican. It was a fantastic weekend, one enjoy by all involved. From all the PAT team members to all the PETRONAS Motorsports teams - have a very good year in their respective competitions and especially to Nick and Felipe see you in Sepang and all the best.
