This year’s event marked an initiation of sorts for our team. We have learned much from it and our drivers and co-drivers will find the experience useful.
We hope to be better prepared next year for improved performance. Although our boys did well despite their lack of experience, we must ensure only the best drivers and co-drivers are selected, bearing mind PETRONAS’ enthusiasm and interest.
Our involvement attracts media interest especially on the international front. This implies good exposure for all concerned.
With other teams - including those from Africa - vouching to be more prepared, competition will be even keener next year.
According to PAT driver, Voo Ken Yin, the event is the toughest in the world. “The obstacles are really challenging especially along the stretch named Twilight Zone. The cars had go through a 75 degree drop from the hill and then climb up again at the same 75 degree gradient! Several winches broke and at least 5 cars overturned,” says Voo.
But that is the Rain Forest Challenge. SS (Serious Stretches) are the norm every year!
