Sowing the seeds of charity

3rd March 2002 - PETRONAS together with PETRONAS Galeri and PAT today organised a charity programme inconjunction with the exhibition that is currently on at the PETRONAS Galeri in KLCC.

15 children and a chaperone from Rumah Ozanam in Petaling Jaya and 16 children and a chaperone from Rumah Al Khariah in Kelang were invited to join PAT in their charity programme that concentrates on the plight of the orang asli. This time around, 15 PAT vehicles took part in donating rice, sugar, sardine, coffee and old clothing amongst other things.

The event started early this morning where PAT split into 3 groups. Each was designated a home to pick up the children. The convoy met up again at Rawang's Rest and Relax area before proceeding towards Kampung Ulu Rasau. There are about 50 orang asli families that are living in this village.

Just as PAT and the children arrived at the village, En. Halim Abd. Rahman gave a short breifing to the children about the orang asli and the purpose of their visit. He wanted the children to understand the living conditions of the orang asli in the village and how they survive with such basic ammenities. He goes on to talk about the need for younger generations to see and fullfill their responsbility in taking care of those that are not able to care for themselves, or just by helping them get back on their feet. The children then spent their time mingling with the orang asli and asked many questions as to further understand their needs and situation.

Lunch was served and after that, Md. Sani Md. Dom, or better known as Pak Sani, an artist, organised a drawing session called 'Penghayatan alam seni' at the waterfall where they spent a few hours drawing. He gave tips and advice on expressing onself with the help of nature and natural colours.

The day ended with a group picture taken of the children and the PAT members. En Azlan of PETRONAS Corporate Affair department and En. Halim Abd Rahman of PAT closed the charity programme with some words of guidance in giving back to those that seek our help.
