
The PETRONAS Adventure Team are back from another one of their daring and action packed adventure. This time it was in the jungles of Pahang for The International Rainforest Challenge 2001. And as promised, here are the results.
In the third category for 2000 to 3000CC Diesel, Petronas Adventure Team's very own Voo Ken Yin and James Wong of car no. 129 took the first place with a final score of 1813.
In the Team SS event, the PETRONAS Adventure Team manage to secure first place, sharing the podium with Team SIMEX with a total score of 195.
For the overall placing of each individual car, the PETRONAS Adventure Team finished as listed :The PETRONAS Adventure Team has produced tremendous results in this year's Rainforest Challenge and they are definitely looking forward to more challenges ahead with great spirit and enthusiasm. 5 December - Great news from the PETRONAS Adventure Team as the Rainforest Challenge 2001 nears the end. Currently Voo Ken Ying and co driver James Wong are in 5th place, while Malik @ Ujang B. Hashim and his co driver Mohd. Ariff Othman are in number 31. And they are followed closely by team members Mohd. Zin Pilus and his co driver Abd. Karim B. Abd. Jalil in 32nd place as well as Ng Gee Kun and co driver Andy Chock in number 43.
The toughest part of the Rainforest challenge is the special stage known as “Twilight Zone”. Out of the 55 cars that were chosen to go through it, only 35 made it to the other side. The PETRONAS Adventure Team were faced with a variety of problems, which included the crank shaft and a clutch burn. But all were solved almost immediately with the expert support and help from the PETRONAS Adventure Team members themselves.
There will be a special stage today at Balok Beach in Kuantan. The winners will be announced tonight at a special closing ceremony back at the Swiss Garden Resort. All the competitors agree that international Rainforest Challenge 2001 is the toughest 4wd challenge in the world. More details on the outcome and survivors will follow, as well as the final winners will be announced tomorrow.
KUALA LUMPUR, 13 December 2001 - The final episode airs Thursday, 20 December 2001 at 11.00 pm on TV3. It covers the Team’s journey from Xi’an, through South China, Laos and Thailand to Putrajaya. Family members may be especially interested in this episode as it includes scenes from the welcoming ceremony at Putrajaya.
The series has received fantastic response with some viewers requesting repeats by TV3. As the series producers, we are naturally delighted.
