The People’s Republic of China beckons. Yunnan Province greets the Malaysians at the border town of Mohan. Once upon an ancient time, caravans traveled through Yunnan along the Silk Road into Burma and India. Today, a third of China’s ethnic minorities live here. After visiting Jinghong’s botanical gardens the team ventures into Kunming, Yunnan’s provincial capital city where the team will carry out their second Community Relations Programme.

From Lijiang’s old town where Naxi culture and history are on display, the team will travel to Zhongdian and Deqin before arriving in Markam, the first town in Tibet. Also known as the "Land of Snows", Tibet is a spiritual realm where Buddhism thrives.  Many monasteries are scattered around the Tibetan plateau, especially around Lhasa, Tibet’s heart and soul. The expedition members will also visit the famous Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple.

Naturally, the expedition’s highlight is Everest Base Camp. At 5,200m above sea level, this is the highest point on the route. Above, stands Mount Everest, the world’s tallest mountain and the “Rooftop of the World” at 8,848m. (Malaysia’s Mount Kinabalu, Southeast Asia’s highest is 4,101m). Before leaving Tibet, the team’s third Community Relations Programme at the Rongbuk Monastery will benefit 100 schoolchildren.

The team explores the ''Land of Smiles".
