The PETRONAS Adventure Team (PAT) is a division within PETRONAS Motorsports. PAT organizes 4-Wheel-Drive expeditions locally and abroad. The expeditions have been more than just a brand and image building exercise for PETRONAS and Malaysia, but also embodies PETRONAS' pioneering spirit. Formed with the intention to the view the world from a different perspective, the vision has taken the team to diverse environments around the globe - from hostile deserts and snow-capped mountains, to pristine rainforests and ancient trails through the oldest civilizations on earth.
This year, on PAT's tenth expedition, the team will travel through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia. Extreme weather and terrains wait to challenge this year's intrepid explorers. PAT will attempt to reach Keliya, the least populated area in China, in the Taklamakan Desert. To date, only three expeditions have been organized to Keliya, with only one expedition reaching the destination with only 4 vehicles.
50 men and women from all walks for life, in 18 vehicles will be participating in the mother of all expeditions this year. The team will spend over 60 days together, traversing rough terrains and extreme weather, to complete the journey from Hamburg, Germany to Kerteh, Malaysia, with a mileage of approximately 21,000 kilometers.
One of the more touching chapters in all the expeditions undertaken by the PETRONAS Adventure Team is the Community Relations Programme organized along the expedition route, especially in countries where PETRONAS has business interests. The journey of thousands of kilometers on lesser travelled roads has enabled the team members to experience first hand the living conditions of communities who have not had the benefit of development. In the name of humanity, PETRONAS through PAT, often graced schools, orphanages, welfare homes as well as meeting the less fortunate along the way and meeting their basic needs thought donations, ranging from food to educational tools.
The PETRONAS Adventure Team Malaysia remains unrelenting in its quest for adventure and knowledge. Most of all, it is not for the sake of a quest, but more importantly to share experiences and be enriched by the people and cultures the team comes across along the way.
